The Global Affairs Program at George Mason University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach GLOA 615: The Arctic and Globalization in Spring 2027. This is a master’s level course.

We seek an instructor who demonstrates interest in interdisciplinary approaches to the political, social, environmental, economic, and geopolitical dynamics of the Arctic. The course may address topics like military conflicts, climate and environmental transformations, sovereignty, natural resources and economic development, international cooperation, and governance and security, among others. The instructor is encouraged to bring their own expertise into the classroom. A syllabus is not yet developed so the instructor will be able to work with the Director of Graduate Studies in Global Affairs and other faculty members to help create their course.

Faculty teaching graduate level courses must possess a doctorate in a discipline related to Global Affairs, such as anthropology, environmental studies, sociology, political science, history, communication, international relations, geography, or closely related field. Pay is based on the university adjunct pay matrix and is commensurate with education and experience.

The course meets Wednesday 7:20 to 10:00pm. The spring semester runs from January 19 to May 12, 2027. Preference is for an instructor who can teach in-person at the George Mason campus in Fairfax, VA. Online modality instead may be an option. The instructor must have research, professional experience, or teaching in Arctic Studies. Someone who has experience with interdisciplinary research and instruction is preferred.

Global Affairs is an interdisciplinary program housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences that offers a BA and MA and is one of the undergraduate degree programs offered at George Mason-Korea.
