Calls for Papers and Workshop Proposals for SfAA 2027, Norfolk, Virginia

As a co-sponsor of the SfAA  meetings in March, WAPA needs to submit at least five sessions (panels, roundtables) and participate with NAPA and the Anthropology Career Readiness Network (ACRN) in providing workshops.  Please consider contributing a proposal or participating in of the following activities being developed by WAPA members.  The deadline for submissions is October 15.

1.  Proposed panel by Richard Morris (morris.counts@gmail.com) on Centering Cultural Anthropology in US Economic Policy.  Session Abstract:  This panel examines cultural anthropology’s vital (if underutilized) role in US economic policy. While macroeconomic modeling dominates policymaking, these top-down, quantitative approaches often miss how policies unfold in real-world communities, labor markets, and supply chains. Panelists will evaluate the current state of anthropological engagement in US economic policy, discuss how policy directives would shift if ethnography were prioritized, examine the trade-offs and risks caused by a lack of qualitative data, and identify opportunities for education and awareness raising to better prepare students, faculty, and the general public to better integrate anthropology in US economic policy formulation and implementation.  See complete call for papers for more information.
