Details:  The WAPA Career Mentoring Event will provide anthropology students and new/transitioning professionals an opportunity to discuss job-seeking and career questions with experienced, professional anthropologists.  If you want to know what opportunities exist for professional anthropologists in certain domains, or if you want to discuss how to describe your skills so that they'll make sense to employers,  this gathering is for you.

This event will start with a very brief overview of career options and  how to match skills  and experiences to the needs of employers.

The main program will then offer two tracks: the main activity will be rotating, 30-minute small group discussions with professional anthropologists on the relevant issues and skills required for careers in several different domains of anthropology. Arenas including: archaeology/cultural resource management, cultural heritage, international development, medical anthropology, health and human services, and museums.  Each small group session will run for 30 minutes and then participants will move to another mentor conversation.

The second opportunity, running parallel to the small group conversations, will be a 30-minute resume review clinic. The first fifteen individuals to register will be guaranteed an opportunity to participate.  (Use the registration button on the left side.) The resume clinic will be staffed by professional anthropologists who are knowledgeable about employers’ views and how to best present yourself on paper. As entry to this track, each participant will be required to bring two (2) hard copies of their resume (not a CV) for review and editing.  The resume should not exceed 3 pages.

(NOTE: registration for the resume clinic is full. If you want to participate, but did not register, sign up for the wait list, or just bring your resume copies and we'll try to fit you in.)

After the sessions, we will regroup and ask you to discuss what you learned (and what you would have liked to have learned) to help us plan future career-building events.  You will also be asked to complete a brief evaluation form to help WAPA improve the next event.
